How do you register a jet ski when you lost the registration from the previous owner and never put it into your name?? I accidently threw it out/can't find it...i spent 4,000 on my jet ski and there has GOT TO BE a possible way to fix this. i know i'm a dumbass but there as to be a way. i'm sure i'm not the only one this has happened to. The DMV told me to contact the previous owner, but i cant because they were moving and that's why they sold it. So contacting them is no longer an option for me. if ANYONE can help me, pleassseee do!!!! Thanks.
i live in ct but i bought it from a guy in new york. I dont have a bill or sale (it was with the registration). Same with the trailor.
Is there a way to report ir found and then wait a time period and if no one claims it then i can keep it? i doubt the old owner has claimed it lost-lol.
As with any other vehicle, you don't use the registration to register it, you use the title, put it in your name and take care of registration at the same time.
If you bought it without seeing a title, how do you know the seller owned it to sell it? How do you know it wasn't stolen? Answer, you don't.
No, you can't just say you 'found' it and get to keep it.
Yes, there is a way to get a title for the jet ski and the trailer. It's called a bonded title, most states have a way to do the bonded title. It's complicated, time consuming and expensive, but it's your only option. I can't give you a company that will help since you didn't mention location, but do a web search for your state + bonded title.
