Sign Cabinet
Posted in equipment on 07/18/2010 07:33 am by adminHow can I tell what type of wood my Hoosier cupboard is made from?
I recently purchased a Hoosier cupboard/cabinet. It has the Seller's manufacturing tag on the front, and the paper tag on the back.
I believe the cabinet is made from oak, but I don't really know how to tell. Are there any signs or unique characteristics that would tell me the type of wood the cabinet was made from.
Here's a picture of the cabinet -

Thanks for your help!

Sorry.
The cabinet is over 80 years old. There's no way of "asking the carpenter," because he's probably in the ground now.
You would know if it's oak because oak is so heavy! Any oak has a very distinctive grain. Mahogany is heavy too but no grain at all! Pine is light weight and dents easily. Can't see your pic, BTW. You should be able to google the tag and find similar ones on the internet...a little research should turn up something like yours, or even exact examples. Hope this helps!
