I am getting a pet Ring-neck Dove. I've never had a bird of my own before. Are there any things I absolutely should have besides the cage, food water stuff, bath, perches, toys and a cuttle bone? Any tips for bonding? Or just any other helpful tips in general?
I have two ring neck doves.
They make great pets. In order to tame your new bird you have to be patient! Don't chase it around the cage. Start by talking to it then put your hand slowly into the cage. If your bird does not get scared move your hand as close as you can. If your bird is young then this will be very easy.
The dove will bond to you as its mate and will need lots of attention.
As a treat I have found that mine love spray millet.
Don't leave the bath in the cage all day. they tend to poop in it and it will get dirty quick
they are very messy eaters so you might want to get a seed guard to hold the seed in.
!!!you also need to have grit! this is very important as they need it to digest there food. Local pet store carry it often for parakeets so if you ask them for bird grit they should know what you are talking about!!!!
