Video Editing programs crash when trying to make clips?

Everytime i try to make short clips out of a video file the video editing program i use crashes. I don't know if it's something in my PC that's causing this.
I have used Ulead Video Studio, blaze media pro and even the freeware Kate's video cutter. it's strange because all of these programs crash whenever i try to do the same thing with different videos.

i think you need to try cyber link power producer.
i'm 300% sure that you have windows vista home premium in your computer/ laptop.
becaz mine crashes too when i use to play games or sometimes when i used to watch movies or trying to run some kind of software.
