People Figures

In the South, I saw them everywhere and I never could figure out what the appeal was. I wondered if maybe they had a purpose or something. I could see that in the dark they may have initially be taken for the shadows of people, and thus served a security purpose, but now that they are everywhere there is no security purpose being fulfilled anymore.
Any theories? How did this trend even get started?
It really is a personal statement....but then it gets to be like everyone is saying the same thing, like, you know. I am partial to front porch furniture, like an old sofa and a kitchen stove or fridg that don't work too good any more. Hound dogs tied with a short chain to the porch is good too, but the chain should not be too long that it gets caught up in the blocks under the old pickup sitting on them.
Pink Flamingos are what's really nice...and add a little class to an otherwise drab yard.
