im thinking about going to a community college for my basics -math, lit, et cedera that is required until i transfer to the college i want to get my degree. i the non-degree admissions thing what im looking for?
(im not ready for college yet, so im not going to call the school and ask XD)
No, it isn't. A non-degree student is one who is not attending for the purpose of getting a degree or transferring to a 4-year school. These are people who take a course or two because their boss wants them to, or they need to learn something to get ready for a new job, or they're just curious.
If you want to transfer to a 4-year school, your community college most likely has a college-transfer curriculum already defined and that leads to an associate of arts in general studies degree.
Non-degree students are at the bottom of the priority list when it comes to registration. They have to wait until all the degree-program students are registered, which means that very often there are no seats left in a particular class.
Contact the 4-year school that you want to attend and make certain there is an articulation agreement in place that allows courses from your community college to transfer. Not every community college offers university-equivalent education. Some community colleges may offer multiple courses with a similar name and course description, but one course transfers to a 4-year school and the others don't. So if you're transferring into a 4-year program that requires a class in developmental psychology, it's your responsibility to find out whether your community college's Psyc 141 Life Span Development transfers, or whether you should take Psyc 265 Human Development instead.
Good luck!
