Today while driving to work I noticed one of my favorite Starbuck's Coffee Houses has closed.
Perhaps if they stopped playing that JARRING music over their loudspeakers at too high of a volume, and focused more on selling coffee, instead of selling stale snacks, pastries that are as hard as cardboard, overpriced candy, Vivanno shakes that taste like Milk of Magnesia, obscure music, overpriced ceramic mugs, coffee machines and other chocthkies,they might be able to keep more of their coffee shops in business.
Oh and it's not cool to charge for coffee refills. Not even full fledged restaurants do that. Having a microwave available so people could heat their coffee that gets cold would be nice too. Even mom and pop espresso/coffee houses know to provide that.
I don't believe you've asked a question here. However, to add some input, I agree with some of what you are saying but you also need to realize that music is a matter of preference so what may be jarring to you and myself may be pleasant and enjoyable to others.
If they were to install a microwave, I think this would have a negative impact on Starbucks's image and make it seem too accessible and cafeteria-like. Part of why Starbucks is so popular is because it is somewhat illusive and higher class than other coffee chains. Coffee should therefore not sit so long that one must reheat it (it is best if drunk immediately so that the flavors do not evaporate or become dilluted).
I agree with your point about Starbucks basically overextending itself with stupid products like their shakes and mugs. They should stick to being a coffee chain since that is what makes them successful. However, they are probably earning a substantial amount of money on their other items and that's why they continue to sell them. They can't make everyone happy, but they sure as hell as filling their pockets.
