But Can Feel Carpet Spikes in grab bars?

Should I be able to feel the tips of the gripping rods? In my son room (3 years) I can feel some of them and can imagine getting a poke unfortunate if he continues his toes by the window or etc. Is this normal or was I sold carpet bad?
