Should I just buy a new shredder?

I occasionally shred bills, bank statements etc, and i purchased my Fellowes P50CM along with my Fellowes laminatir about 3 to 4 years ago. The shredder has not had a massive amount of use, but often enough. Problem is that the power cable has split, revealing the coloured cables. I used black tape, but another part of the cable (in a place where the tape cannot be applied) has appeared, exposing the risk of electric shock. Should i buy a new shredder (proberbly not a Fellowes) or try to attempt and do with some of the cables exposing? Thanks for your input.
Sadly cannot replace the cord, built into the chassis of the shredder head, it cannot be removed.

The wire can be repaired safely or replaced if you know what to do. If you are not sure and feel uncomfortable about it, I'd say it is best to go with your feelings and replace the machine. Better safe than sorry.
