Are wrist malas good for anything besides jewelry?

Buddhists use malas as counting devices. They can be used to count mantra repetitions, the number of prostrations, or anything else that is done in multiples.

Most Buddhist malas have either 27 beads or 108 beads (27x4) - ancient "sacred" numbers.
